Contemporary Pilates.
Pilates is a method devised by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. He originally termed it “contrology” referring to the focus on the steady smooth flow of movement,. In order to achieve a good level of mobility ( combination of both strength , stability and flexibility) the fundamental requirement is for an optimally functioning control system.
Pilates was founded on certain principles of movement
Awareness , Centering, Grounding, Alignment, Breath and Flow.
He proposed a series of matwork exercises which form the traditional Pilates method.
In Contemporary Pilates group classes we draw on these traditional exercises and extend the repertoire to include other exercises relevant to the participant and teach them in accordance with the original principles.
